Well, I’ve joined the swarm and got myself a plurk account (you can be my friend [awww] here). There’s a lot of talk about it being a twitter-killer, i’m not totally convinced that I like the UI, but i definitely DO like the comment threading. Keeping track of conversations is definitely something IMHO which is missing from twitter; it’s also missing from friendfeed’s newish room offering so this could be a nice USP for plurk. Anyway, we’ll see how it goes. Mu Saleem has written a glowing report on Read/Write web if you want to know more.
Now, if you think that micro-blogging requires too much text-entry, then Adocu is the reductio ad absurdum nano-bloggin service for you! One word only! I haven’t given it a spin yet because quite frankly i’m far too flabby and verbose to make this work, but maybe you can?
So, we’re at the roller coaster stage of the post - thank god, something interesting right? Well, sort of, I thought it was interesting when i started watching but then I got bored pretty quickly (which is happening increasingly frequently, is this happening to anyone else?). Anyway, it’s a video of the UK housing market as a roller coaster ride. I’m always interested in data visualisation so this got my attention. IMHO the ride is a bit flat, i think they should alter the scale to make the highs higher and the lows lower but perhaps that makes it inaccurate!
There’s more YouTube news doing the rounds on teh interwebs too. First is that YT now supports annotation. I’m not sure what to think about this. I’ve been hearing more and more moans about Google seeing good ideas from startup companies and just stealing their functionality for their own services. I think it was Asterpix who first supported annotations on video (and also the genius hyper-linking between videos). It concerns me a little that if Google just steals other people’s good ideas then it kills innovation. Ah well, it was ever thus i suppose.
The next news from YT world is that soon channel owners will be able to make money from advertising on their channels - at least that’s what Advertising Age is reporting. Could be interesting, especially as the OU is readying its own YT channel.
