Richard Greenwood - Bio-Observatory & Evolution MegaLab: iSpot development continues

I was at the Future of Web Apps Expo in London last Thursday & Friday which was well worth going to, and gave me lots of food of thought about potential avenues to explore with the iSpot site development. But for the time being I’m just focusing on getting the site to a point suitable for beta release.

I’ve been having major problems with trying to set up a file server to store all the images that will be uploaded. In the end I’ve decided to put this on hold until the web server has been set up in its final place on a Linux box, this is because the problems I’ve been having stem from trying to link to a Linux box from a Windows box.

On the site I’ve been busy working through the list of jobs, and so people should hopefully be noticing the site slowly changing. One of the large changes is the removal of the determination field in the observations, with it being replaced with two fields; scientific name, and common name. I’ve moved all the existing determinations into the common name field so users will have to edit some of their observations to move the common name to the scientific field where needed.
