I came across Find Mobile today. It is a fairly inexpensive service that allows you to track as many mobiles as you want. You need to be over 16 and have the permission of the owner of the mobile you are tracking. The service is linked to your mobile number. Periodically, the site send texts to the trackee reminding them that they are trackable and they can cancel their permission at any time by texting NOTHANKS and your mobile phone number. I guess this is important if they are trackable by multiple mobiles.
The main use for this seems to be for parents who want that bit of extra security of knowing where their children are. However it only works if the mobile phone is switched on - and if the phone is switched on, surely you could just phone your child and ask where they are?
I wonder how many parents actually use this service and whether it is of any real use. It seems a bit “big brother” like.
